Cause of drift: inside the joystick are these leaf-spring contacts that get flattened as you use them, there are temporary fixes such as in this video showing how to access and bend them back up, but it just gets flattened again.. The fix: cut small triangular pieces of foam (I used eva art/craft foam) to support the leaf-spring contacts so they don't get flattened.
